Hammonasset is one of the biggest public beaches in Connecticut with over two miles of the shore. This beach not only includes a long beach but picnic space, hiking, fishing, and boating. In season, they also hold public events on the beach like movie night and bingo. There is also a nature center located on the beach that often holds events and is open to the public. This location also features a camping ground with 550 camping spots with amenities including water, electrical, and bathrooms. This is a great place to camp if you don't want to be remote.

The beach is located at 1288 Boston Post Rd, Madison, CT 06443. If you are looking to visit this beach keep in mind that the weekend is very busy in the summer because it is one of the bigger beaches in CT.

If you are looking for accommodations look into the Madison Beach Hotel for beautiful views of the Ocean. They have a great brunch selection with fanatstic food and a great restaurant on site. This location also has a spa that is an additional cost for guests if you wish to unwind. The Homestead Madison is also a great option for a bed and breakfeast. If you want to stay at a place breakfast is a home away from home come here. The staff here are also very friendly.

The best restaurant in the area is Donahue Madison Beach Grille is only a block away. The enviroment is casual so it's great to walk in right after the beach without worrying about getting all dressed up. They also have live music! The Wharf is also a good choice if you want someting more upscale. It has a great veiw and is known for there cocktails. The food is amazing and the staff is very attentive.

Noteworthy Reviews:

"Awesome walking/running/biking paths that span across the park. Great bird watching areas and huge span of beach space. If you're camping, be sure to check out the lobster bakes from Indian River Shellfish (1/4 mile down route 1). They give you everything you need to cook it right on the fire pit! Check out Meigs Point Nature Center with the kids too!"

"No trip to Hammonasset State Park would be complete without spending time at Meigs Point. On this glorious last day of summer it seemed particularly beautiful. The afternoon sun shimmered on the water in a spectacular Ingrid Affect. In addition to the natural beauty, there is great geological and historical significance. Though it is a relatively small area, it offers a trail, observation points and benches to relax on. I for one love to play on the rocks making for great photo ops. The salt marsh lies across the parking lot and the Nature Center is adjacent to that. This is included in the park fee, though there seems to be free admission after high season."

"We finally made it to this beach after it being completely packed all summer. It's not a humongous park - only two miles of shoreline - but it's extremely popular, and with good reason. The beach and water are clean and well-maintained, and the sunsets are absolutely stunning. There are several trails here for walking, jogging, and biking, and there's also space for picnicking, fishing, and camping. It gets full pretty early in the day, so if you want to spend a good amount of time here, plan your day accordingly and come here early, especially since the parking lots are at reduced capacity due to COVID. There's also a fun nature center and places for scuba diving and boating. All in all, there's something for everything."
